Getting your plants ready for a nursery stay
Tue, Oct 20, 2026
Your plants are going somewhere with more light and better care than your living room in January. A little preparation helps them settle in.
Check for pests first
Look under the leaves and where they join the stem. White fluff is usually mealybugs. Tiny webs mean spider mites. Brown bumps that scrape off are scale.
Nurseries turn away plants with pests, because one infested plant can spread to their stock and everyone else's. If a plant is turned away you get its price back, but you also have to take it home again. Better to find out now.
Water the day before, not the morning of
A soaked pot is heavy and drips in the car. Water the day before so the soil is damp but the pot has drained.
Label everything
Masking tape and a marker on each pot: your name, and anything unusual. “Water only when dry.” “Hates direct sun.” Staff read these.
Bring your booking code
It's in your confirmation email, with a QR code. Staff look up your booking and photograph each plant as it comes in. You'll get those photos by email, so you know exactly what condition everything was in.
