Plant boarding: winter income for garden centres

Wed, Oct 21, 2026

Garden centres are busiest when the weather is good and people want to plant things. The rest of the year, greenhouse space sits half used and the staff are still there.

Meanwhile plenty of people in Metro Vancouver travel every winter. Their monsteras and fiddle-leaf figs stay behind. Neighbours forget. Self-watering spikes run dry after two weeks.

Plant boarding puts those two problems together.

How it works

An owner books online and brings the plants in. You look after them like your own stock and post a photo every week. When they're back from their trip, they collect.

You set your own weekly rate per plant and decide how much space to offer. We take the bookings and the money, and send you your share once a month by e-Transfer.

Why it suits the off-season

Winter stays are long. A snowbird away from November to March books four or five months at once. Those plants mostly need watering and a bright spot, not daily attention. Long stays cost the owner 30% less per day after the first 4 weeks, which is what makes them affordable.

There's a second benefit people underestimate. Each booking brings a plant owner into your shop twice. These are people who buy plants.

What it costs you

Nothing to join. No commission for the first 6 months, then 10% of the plant charges. The owner pays our service fee and GST on top of your price.
